Cake and cupcake Kits
When is the best time to order my kit?
We recommend ordering ahead to avoid disappointment, and you can bake and freeze your cake or cupcakes up to 4 weeks in advance which means less stress!
Most customers order within 1 - 3 months of the celebration.
What ingredients will I need to buy?
It’s just the eggs, milk and butter (or allergy free alternatives) you will need to buy fresh. All the quantities can be found on the front of the recipe card in your kit.
What tools do you provide? What do I need?
Our cake and cupcake kits comes with a disposable baking pan(s), tin, or disposable cupcake holders, a pre-cut stencil (shaped cakes only), a wooden spatula (to making icing easier), a piping kit (selected kits) and a skewer (to test if the cakes are cooked).
You'll need an electric mixer (if you don’t have one, hopefully you can borrow one from your neighbour or friend), a mixing spoon, a large mixing bowl, measuring cups, a serrated knife, a non-serrated knife, plastic wrap or aluminium foil.
Are the disposable baking pans okay to put in the oven? Do they need to be greased beforehand?
Yes, the disposable cake pans and cupcake holders are designed to go straight into the oven, using non-stick and heat-resistant carton board. They come pre-greased and can be discarded after use, which saves on the washing up.
When is the best time to make the cake?
We highly recommend baking and freezing the cakes 1 to 2 days before the celebration, or if planning ahead, up to a month in advance. Freezing your cake has many advantages. It makes them easier to handle as they hold their shape, it locks in the moisture, and it keeps those cheeky little crumbs away when icing. Separating the jobs over 2 days also helps minimise the stress.
Icing the cake is always best the morning of the celebration as it’s tastiest when fresh, however if you have an early start, or feeling a little stressed (hello first time baker!), we recommend you ice the cake the night before and store it i the fridge overnight.
What’s the shelf life of the cake and cupcake kits?
All our ingredients have a long shelf-life, however we recommended using the kit within 12 weeks of shipment to maximise freshness.
How do I store my unopened kit?
Store your kit in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
How do I store my freshly baked cake?
We highly recommend baking and freezing your cake 1-2 days prior to the celebration, or if planning ahead, up to a month in advance. Splitting the jobs over 2 days means less stress! Freezing your cake also has many advantages. It locks in the moisture, it keeps those cheeky little crumbs away when icing and it makes the cake easier to handle as it holds its shape.
Of course you don’t have to freeze the cake if you would prefer to make it all in one day, or you would like to leave it in an airtight container on the kitchen bench overnight.
If freezing, wrap the cake in cling wrap (and aluminium foil if storing in freezer for over 48hrs to prevent freezer burn). Place in the freezer, on an even surface.
If planning to make the cake on the day of the celebration, try to freeze your cakes for at least one hour before icing to help lock in the crumbs.
How do I store my decorated cake?
Leave in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight or if it is hot or humid you can store it in the fridge overnight (just leave off the wafer topper until closer to serving).
